Current Album: Aroundthebay Description: Location: Upper Island Cove, Conception Bay
The main attraction in the town of Upper Island Cove is its natural scenic beauty. This is a town rich in history and a beautiful landscape. It is located on Conception Bay North and the town overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. Conception Bay South and Bell Island can be seen directly across the water. Like most towns in coastal Newfoundland, Upper Island Cove is built around a harbour which accesses the sea. Many settlers made their homes in places such as this in order to take advantage of the rich sea resources. When visiting Upper Island Cove, one can easily see how houses were built extremely close to the water, in some cases right on the bank leading into the harbour. During the early days of settlement the only form of entertainment was music, song and stories which were handed down from generation to generation. Music and song is still a very big part of Upper Island Cove and the community is well known for it's many musicians, singers and story tellers. This town is also well known for it's diverse and unique culture. Early settlers from Scotland and England were the strongest influence to Upper Island Cove's unique dialect.
